Charlotte Harbor Fishing Report

Hope you enjoy this video!  the Redfish are biting the secret is be patience and have confidence in you technique.

December is starting off with lots of keeper Redfish and trophy Trout . In between the cold fronts the fish are hitting i'm finding that the bite is sluggish in between the main feeding period . Ive been spending allot of time working the pot holes and deep cuts along the mangroves and trying to pattern them .Working from the shore out ! seems to be a good way of locating the fish but it is very important to go a little slower and really cover a area . the longer you fish a hole the more likely you will find them i had lots of fish this week that hit the bait and just sat there but in between the down time the hits were viscous and the fights have been crazey .

November 2011 Fishing report For Boca Grande, Lemon bay, Charlotte Harbor.

charlotte harbor fishing report

November 2011:

Well its November her in southwest Florida. With the cooler temps and stronger north east winds. its time to slow it down and get to used to the new tides . With lower Tides Charlotte Harbor will start to show you just how many flats bars and cuts it really has. And things change from year to year. I suggest heading out with a local guide to get a idea of the ways in and out and for the experienced guys just remember its that time of the year to really pay attention to your surroundings. As the fronts pass it’s been a great time to be on the hunt for some great sport fishing. Ive been doing well on a verity of methods including live bait, jigs, and spoons. I’ve been presenting baits in a slow manner in am and watching my locater to try to see what temps the fish are hitting the best at and what technique, Slow, medium live or cut. Some times if you get a consistent weather period you can get a pattern down. But it seems to change with fronts but usually gets you in the ball park

OCTOBER FISHING REPORT FOR BOCA GRANDE, ENGLWOOD, CHARLOTTE HARBOR. OCTOBER 2011

boca grande snook charlotte harbor redfish

OCTOBER 2011

Is starting off as it should .The redfish are schooling up on the flats and eating everything that pass there sight. This is a great time to use artificial and my go to bait is the Johnson spoon you can cast it a mile and everything eats it. Gold is by far the Reds favorite color. But I always have silver tied on!! Snook, Trout, and every thing in between will eat it. Fishing has seemed to be best for me on the lowest part of the tides. But be careful wile we are in the slow and weak time of the year for our tides and a little north east wind can really affect the amount of water we are expecting. If the area your fishing seems to be lower than normal and you’re thinking well its 10am and it’s supposed to be 1.2 at 10.30 the odds of it filling up are slim I suggest moving on its not happing. And the last thing you need is a lower unit. Or damaging our estuary!

February fishing report for Englewood Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grande

February has started off on the windy side and that’s made fishing opportunities much more challenging. But its only going to get better by mid month the cold weather north of us will weaken and bring us much warmer air and that in return will establish a more consistent water temperatures in the charlotte harbor and lemon bay estuary as of Feb 8 2011 water temperatures in Englewood Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor ranged from 68-73. In between the fronts fishing will pick up and offer great opportunities for some Gator Trout, Redfish and occasional Snook. This all can be done using light tackle on live, cut and artificial baits. Also watch out for some diving pelicans as the water warms up the glass minnows will start showing up this can present great top water fishing action as the Trout, Lady Fish and Jacks find them. And don’t forget that February also boasts a great time to take the family on a lemon bay sight seeing eco trip . With our eagles nesting, plenty of dolphins, and an abundant amount of birds grab the camera and enjoy nature at its finest.

January lemon bay fishing outlook

December is behind us and January is starting off on the right track as the weather warms up to more seasonable temps so will the water temperatures. Fishing should start to pick up as well giving great opportunity to fish for the old fanged tooth spotted sea trout that came back in season January 1st. While chasing the trout there should be plenty of opportunity to stalk my favorite inshore species the Redfish. This all can be done using light tackle on live, cut and artificial baits. I do prefer using shrimp under a cork, or on the bottom rigging Texas style, or using cut bait when the water temperatures are below 65. As of December 31st Lemon Bay water temps ranged from 57-60.5. Having a couple warm days and mild nights it should bounce back in the mid 60s and that means fish on!! January also boasts a great time to take the family on a lemon bay sight seeing eco trip . With our eagles nesting, plenty of dolphins, and an abundant amount of birds grab the camera and enjoy nature at its finest.

Its cold out is it worth going fishing?

Im often ask well with the water temps cooler than normal or a approaching front with some  high winds is it worth it to go fishing ?  and i say hell yes are the conditions always perfect no! is there a chill in the air yes! will we slauter the fish ? i dont no maybe.  but i do no this theirs more to fishing than just catching fish one after another and some times its even more rewarding heading out when its not perfect and slowing it down a bit and realy working together as a team and after a long day of fishing knowing you gave it your best and  its all worth it when you land that monster gator trout or slam a big red knowing that most sat on shore and you did it . just like the old saying you cant catch a fish without a line in the water and thas a fact  ive learned over the years that it only takes a secound to land that monster and make it all worth it  .and on some of the worst days ive had the best of luck you just never no that's whats great about fishing so bundle up and grab a rod or better yet give me a call and lets get on the water.

First charlotte harbor cold front = Red hot Redfishing.

cold water redfish

Well November is here and it brought us our first cold front  the temperature plumbed and the north east wind blew out the water in the Charlotte Harbor . but we had to deal with it and find away of producing fish. The first thing you need to keep in mind is safety both for your boat and our estuary winter tides brings a hole new meaning to skinny water were you went at low tide last week is different than this week . get familiar with the new lows and highs tides are crucial not only for the fish bight but for navigation . the new low tides bring a different strategy to stalking the many game fish of the flats . deep holes and shelter with easy access to food is the key present your baits in a slower and more deliberate manor and remember a warm up of a couple degrees is all it takes to make the difference.
